Osram Debuts App-Based LED lighting Control
SSL Design News Staff
Osram debuted Lightify, its new smartphone controllable lighting system at Light+Building 2014. The system, which integrates into existing WLAN networks, reportedly allows an app on a smartphone or tablet to control lighting. It allows users set a wide range of light atmospheres. The system apparently incorporates the company's LEDotron digital dimming standard that the company developed with Dialog Semiconductor among others.
"Connected light is yet another important step for us towards the digital light era. With Lightify we have transformed an idea into an innovation that contains almost everything that light is able to do today" said Peter Laier, Osram's Chief Technology Officer and executive board member responsible for the company's general illumination business. Lightify will be available from the start of the coming lighting season in Germany and other European markets. Lightify enables lighting scenes that can be configured and controlled while moving. The app also offers programmed light scenes including a realistic sunrise. Selection of scenes and lighting colors can also be based on photos. Osram indicated that the right scene helps people feel more and energetic in the morning and to sleep more easily in the evening. Before trips, users can create dynamic light profiles. While away the use of absence mode also allows the creation of light profiles while away. According to Osram, these light profiles offer greater protection from burglars compared to standard time clocks. Lightify components automatically interconnect. The entire Lightify family of LED lamps and luminaires can be controlled anywhere, whether it is lighting for living rooms or corridors, gardens and terraces or professional lighting in offices. Osram's Lightify system follows an integrative approach and provides products from a single source. Osram says that other manufacturers' installed lighting systems and products that support the ZigBee Light Link standard or Home Automation standard can also be integrated into the system. Also, the system has an interface for the DALI standard, which is widely used in professional applications in Europe. Lightify should be available during the next lighting season with a version for end consumers and second version for professional users. The starter kit for end customers contains the gateway and a lamp. The controller app is free and available from various app stores.
